Darlinghurst Eats Its Young

Using photographs left behind after her friend Maggie’s death, the film looks back at a group of friends and artists in 1980s Darlinghurst. Through memory, images, and music, it reflects on youth, chosen family, and loss.

A 70-year-old Southern woman is guided by a local drag queen legend in pursuing her dream of performing in drag for the very first time. Through this process, she develops heartfelt relationships with members of the queer community, challenges preconceived notions, and is exposed to the joys and hardships of LGBTQ+ life.

LaMia Dingle, the artistic director of Moving In The Spirit , spent nearly two years without stable housing and reflects on that period in the documentary. Her story becomes a way for us to examine homelessness in Atlanta as a broader, systemic condition.
