About Atlanta Documentary Film Festival

ATL DOC - Two Decades of Docs

ATL DOC has been part of Atlanta’s documentary scene for more than twenty years. It began as Atlanta Docufest and has grown into a clearer identity that reflects where documentary filmmaking is heading. The focus is the same as day one: real stories told with intention.

Now in its twenty first year, the Atlanta Documentary Film Festival continues to highlight work shaped by strong perspectives and honest storytelling. We look for films that move people, challenge assumptions, and stay with audiences long after they screen. If your documentary exposes an issue, captures a personal story, or explores a subject with depth, ATL DOC is built for you.

We screen feature and short documentaries from around the world. The program includes investigative pieces, personal and political stories, arts and culture films, environmental subjects, and projects that experiment with form. Everything centers on filmmakers who bring a clear point of view and a commitment to real life on screen.

Filmmakers can expect live screenings, thoughtful programming, and an audience that cares about documentary film. The festival also includes Q&As and time for filmmakers to connect with each other, supported by a team that has spent two decades running film festivals across the Atlanta Film Series.

If you want your documentary to reach an engaged Atlanta audience and be part of a festival dedicated to nonfiction storytelling, ATL DOC is where your work belongs.

ATL DOC Film Festival absolutely deserves a glowing 5-star review!

My team was truly honored to be selected as the opening feature, and even more grateful to receive the award for Best Local Documentary Feature—especially among such a stellar and inspiring lineup of films.

From start to finish, the team behind ATL DOC demonstrated exceptional attention to detail, a deep respect for the craft of independent filmmaking, and outstanding communication and timeliness throughout the entire process. Every aspect of the festival felt thoughtfully curated and professionally executed.

What stood out most was the way they celebrated and supported filmmakers. ATL DOC created an environment that felt welcoming, uplifting, and genuinely appreciative of the creators and their work. Hosting us in such a warm and celebratory way made the entire experience not just memorable, but truly special.

Cheers to them in championing independent voices and for putting together such a remarkable event. We’re incredibly grateful to have been part of it and look forward to what’s ahead for ATL DOC!

We are profoundly grateful  for recognizing our film "Living UN DONE" and honoring us with the Jury Award.

From our cast and entire crew - the emotional response our film has evoked speaks volumes about its significance and impact and we are beyond grateful for this acknowledgment by the  team.

A gigantic thank you to the outstanding women who ran the festival, Kelsey Coy, Auraclea Toms, and Heather Elenia, as well.

Your tireless efforts ensured that we all felt welcomed and supported throughout the entire event. You ladies are truly extraordinary.

Filmmakers: I HIGHLY recommend submitting your film to this festival. It was a wonderful experience for all of us.

The Atlanta Docufest was unbelievably fun. They were super sweet and gave every filmmaker the opportunity to have a Q&A to talk about our films. I definitely look forward to submitting more of my work with the Atlanta Film Series.

We had a wonderful experience and are honored that IT’S NOT UP TO US won the Short Documentary Jury Award — considering the high quality of films in this festival, that is a tremendous honor.
Every film in our program was fantastic and I look forward to following the careers of the talented filmmakers I encountered.
